Why subscribe?

SID Sports is a newsletter that focuses on the college sports world, with a lens on college football. As a former FBS SID, I’ve been involved in college football directly, and bring a unique perspective to the table.

Additionally, I have a degree in sport management, as well as done some graduate-level work in sport administration. I understand sports, particularly the college game, well, and can give you interesting takes and perspectives that you won’t find elsewhere.

You keep saying you’re an SID, what is that?

SID stands for Sport Information Director. Basically, our role is to manage all communications coming out of the university. That means that I’ve worked with coaches and players directly, and have gotten to know them on a personal level.

In my time as an SID, I’ve worked at three such schools in the FBS. If you’re reading closely (or follow me on Twitter), you can probably figure out what three. But, that’s besides the point. I’ve worked with coaches to make sure their program identity is perfectly articulated. I’ve been behind the scenes at press conferences with coaches, players, and media. I’ve had classes with players, and gotten to know many athletic administrators across the NCAA.

Is this newsletter only for die-hard college football fans?

I don’t think so. There’s some jokes or references that I’ll make that might go over your head, but this is an opportunity to learn about one of America’s great sports. College football is truly unique, and brings an experience unlike any other. Even in your living room, the collegiate atmosphere and traditions make it special.

With that uniqueness comes a lot of minute details that I want to help you wade through. So, let’s go on a journey together. Hopefully I can provide you the context to decipher the latest coaching drama, why your alumni friends are upset, or what’s going to be talked about around the water cooler on Monday. I can promise you, if you repeat what I write here in a conversation, you’ll sound like you know what you’re talking about.

Do I get any perks as a subscriber?

Of course you do! The biggest one is the full access to all the SID Sports archive and access to future Substack-exclusive content.

We also run subscriber-only chats that I’m planning on monitoring for each story and on gamedays so we can all chat about whatever game we’re watching. I know I’m going to have a few on and I’m excited to talk to you all!

Finally, each subscriber can get a custom cover insert of College Football 25 for either PlayStation or XBOX! If you subscribe, you can check out the article below and order your cover insert for free.

The best part? All of these perks are free!

Can I talk to you?

Of course! In fact, I encourage it!

You can comment on newsletters, find me on Twitter, Facebook, Substack Notes, or Bluesky to start a conversation, or email me at sidsports23@gmail.com.

You can also DM me now on Substack! Just click the button below to start a conversation.

I have a topic I would like you to cover. Do you take requests?

I’d be happy to write anything my subscribers want to see!

If you have a question you’d like answered, a team you’d like covered, or some area of college football explained, let me know! You can reach out to me on any of the social media platforms above or send me a message and I’d be happy to talk!

If you’re a college sports entity or someone working in athletics and have something you’d like to see covered and discussed, please feel free to reach out as well!
